Indoor Rock Climbing

Girls will spend two hours learning basic rock climbing techniques at the largest indoor natural rock climbing wall in North America, all while working their way to the top. Girls will work on their own pace to try different routes along the wall, will wear a helmet, and will be belayed by climbing wall staff. Helmets and shoes are provided. This activity begins at 10:45 a.m.

Complete an Earth Week Take-Action Project by helping to get Amahami ready for camping! Enjoy a weekend at the gorgeous Amahami Outdoor Center for half the normal rental price! During this popular annual program, participants will work from 9:00 a.m. to noon on a variety of projects such as erecting tents and completing other projects to prepare Amahami for the camping season. On Saturday afternoon, participants may join other weekend visitors at Fletcher Lodge for Amahami Celebrates Earth Day! activities.
To receive the half-price discount, it is mandatory that perticipants spend
Saturday morning working with the rangers; you are welcome to help out on Sunday as well—there's a lot to do!

The Case of the Borrowed Bear

Brownies Bop to the Beat

Girls will learn a dance routine created by Elmira College's amazing and talented cheerleading squad, the Soaring Eagles. After learning the Soaring Eagles' routine, Brownies will be introduced to the Girl Scout WOW! Journey. Each girl will make her own rain stick. Girls will then pair up to create a dance to share with the rest of the group. Each girl is asked to bring a cardboard tube from a roll of paper towels to make her rain stick.

Outdoor Adventurers: Horseback Riding

Grab your boots and saddle up for a weekend of riding at Misty Hollow! We have more than 400 acres of ponds, pastures, hills, and an extensive network of trails. Spend the night in the Hideaways unit and enjoy good old-fashioned cowpoke cooking! Participation strictly limited to experienced riders who have the ability to control, groom, and tack their own horse.

Junior Wildlife Badge

Spend an exciting day at SUNY ESF learning about wildlife from college graduate students. You will earn your Wildlife badge. (The badges are included in this program.) Lunch will be provided. Open to registered Girl Scouts of all ages!
Girl Scouts, this is an opportunity unlike any other! Help out on a real archeological dig! Ball Farmstead is an excavation site in the Finger Lakes National Forest. Under the guidance of Dr. LouAnn Wurst of Western Michigan University, participants will help excavate the Ball Farmstead archeological site. Girl Scouts can choose to help out for one day, or all of them! Free camp sites on Seneca Lake will be provided for those who need overnight accommodations. Participants will provide their own food and overnight gear.
Girl Scouts will learn about land use changes over time, from bustling towns and farmsteads to pasture land and a place of multiple use management. They will learn about the plight of the American farmer in the 1900's and the Great Depression, and how that transformed the landscape today. They will learn the importance of archeological preservation, the concept of multiple use management, and how the National Forests differ from other agencies such as the National Park Service. They will gain tactical and practical skills such as record keeping, measuring, sifting, and troweling. They will learn basic hands-on archaeology skills and terms such as stratigraphy, provenance, and the importance of research, records, and maps. And so much more!
This program is open to troops and chaperoned Juliettes; at least one adult for every three girls participating please.
Our new Journey series, It’s Your Story: Tell It! is just around the corner. This program is a wonderful compliment to the new Journey and a terrific, helpful Take-Action project!

Get ready for some adrenaline-pumping excitement on the granddaddy of all New York rivers, the Hudson! This wilderness rafting trip will take you through gorgeous Adirondack scenery and over thrilling Class III and IV whitewater rapids. You will spend two nights camping in the Adirondack Park with one full day of rafting. Food and transportation provided (from central location within the council).

Erie Canal Canoe Trip

Enjoy a day on the Erie Canal. We will meet at Lock #19 at Frankfort, have lunch, and launch our canoes. We will canoe down the canal to the Ilion Marina, where we will have a cookout. This trip is approximately 10 miles. Girls are welcome to bring their own kayaks if they prefer.

Discover the fun of flat-water kayaking while taking in the beautiful autumn scenery and wildlife of the Adirondack Park. First-timers learn basic paddling skills and water safety. Those who are more experienced will expand upon their skill set. We will enjoy two nights of camping with plenty of laughter and storytelling around the campfire. food, gear, and transportation provided (from a central location within the council).
